Abstract
The strategic location of Algeria in the Mediterranean Basin has offered to the capital, Algiers,
geomorphological specificities that have allowed the birth of a relationship between the site and
its transport network. This Transport-Territory correlation has transformed over time into a
complex relationship given the topographical constraint. The adaptation of these two concepts only
takes off through the use of sustainable mobility as well as its promotion for the capital of Algiers
and this, in view of the basis of the systems, in a systemic approach, and the adoption
environmental policy for its urban strategies and instruments.
Thus, through indicators drawn from the field, the evaluation of this sustainable mobility makes it
possible to measure the degree of balance of the Transport-Territory system.
In this perspective, this thesis proposes to implement, on the one hand, the objectives of the PDAU
of Algiers and the PSA by 2035; and on the other hand, the challenges of sustainable mobility in
the capital, Algiers, on the various aspects of sustainable development. Parameters related to
mobility and transport are taken into account with those related to the territory (causal
relationship), for the development of evaluation indicators. Also, the proposal for a set of actions,
restrictions and interventions with the aim of reducing the negative impacts of the parameters on
the issues will be reported.
This laborious work led to the construction of a set of around 70 specific indicators for the case of
Algiers. Nevertheless, these remain flexible and applicable to other Algerian cities with the same
challenges regarding sustainable mobility.
As a field of study, Algiers is a relevant subject to address this issue, given the link between its
territory and its transport network. The availability of information as well as the presence of several
modes and means of travel in its network, added to the geomorphological constraint, make it a
field of study adapted to our problem.
