Le Sens du lieu dans la gestion du paysage urbain

Abstract

Urban environments like Tipaza which, in addition to their historical value, are situated at the meeting point of several scenic and environmental resources. Unfortunately they are considered as fragment of themselves by the management tools. This sectorial and physical oriented management leads to a loss of the area’s character and to the fragmentation of its townscape including its surrounding landscape. Besides, instead of considering such cities as a living environment, these conservation tools exclude inhabitants’ values and meanings. These latter constitutes their sense of place. This is precisely why, according to us, such particular environment deserves to be referred to as a historic urban landscape. This concept will allow us to take into account, not only the inherited dimension, but also the urban and the environmental values, including sociocognitive ones. Thus, by drawing on three key concepts which are historic urban landscape, sense of place and the sociocognitive approach, the objective of this study is to build an investigation’s protocol addressed to the Algerian context. Indeed, we aim this protocol to be integrated in the management and planning tools.
