Abstract
Our research thesis is a continuation of our research work on the question of the rehabilitation of
public spaces through its urban atmospheres and its immaterial components. Its aims is to investigate
the phenomenon of aesthetic consumption, which goes beyond the framework of the beautiful object to
be destroyed. We particularly question the experiential role of users in the making of the immateriality
of public places in Algeria. The objective is to examine the model of their spatial and phenomenal
intangible structure. The reflection put forward is based on the assumption that the hedonic experience
of the users of public places allows us not only to reveal their sensitive dimension, which transcends the
limits of the four dimensions of space (in other words, which cannot be measured either by Euclidean
distances or by time), but also to highlight the structure of their spatialities and intangible phenomena.
To do this, the generation of the hypothetical systemic experiential model was based on the one
hand on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S.O.R) theoretical model of Mehrabian & Russell (1974),
on the experiential paradigm of Holbrook & Hirschman (1982) and on the experiential modules of
Schmitt (1999). This experiential model, on the other hand, is based on the typology of the
atmosphere of Baker (1986) and the theory of mind proposed by Premack et Woodruff (1978).
The approach allowed us to conceptualize and determine the indicators of the experiential nature
of public places. The methodological contribution of this research involves the combination of two
analytical methods: the first is adapted to the procedure of developing the best measurement scales of
Churchill (1979). Using statistical methods, it ensures the reliability and validity of the tool used to
measure the experiential experience of public places. The second method relates to structural modelling,
which adopts two types of analysis run on AMOS software: Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and
Structural Equation Model Analysis (S.E.M.) for the evaluation of four structural models and their
comparison.
The results of these two structural analyses show good level of goodness of fit. The comparative
analysis of the four models enabled us to rank the model based on the S.O.R. model of Mehrabian &
Russell (1974), on the experiential paradigm of Holbrook & Hirschman (1982), on the experiential
modules of Schmitt (1999), on the typology of the atmosphere of Baker (1986) and the theory
of mind proposed by Premack et Woodruff (1978). In other words, the analysis confirms the
principles of the Stimulus-Organism-Behavior model theory of the last generation. These data
allowed us to confirm all of the hypotheses of our hypothetical experiential model. In addition,
the evaluation of relative importance indices (RII) and polarity indices (PI) allowed us to
precisely target the rehabilitation of each public place.
