Abstract
The global challenge of sustainable conservation of the peri-urban agricultural land is today facing a disorderly and excessive consumption of agricultural land caused by increasing urbanization, the origin of land instability: urban sprawl and major infrastructural projects development in many cities, such as Algeria, including its capital, Algiers, will surely weaken some agricultural activity in the periphery.
The total agricultural area is gradually amputated and the remaining farm viability can be compromised. It is necessary nowadays to control this urbanization taking over the suburban landscape by structuring the land in order to maintain sustainable agricultural areas. Development and maintenance of peri-urban agriculture in the territory of the city of Algiers in fact induces a valuation of it. To prevent future changes in land agricultural and limit urban sprawl space, will be the implementation of a policy of green belt.
Finally, to achieve a sustainable planning of the peri-urban areas, we are more concerned about the preservation of agricultural resources integrated to the environment. Our subject is intended to introduce the strategy of green belt, with a reading of some foreign experiences, try to discern the problem, and beyond the legacy of urban sprawl for our case study (The City of Algiers). This is to test the feasibility of this strategy and its adaptation to the local context, leading finally to a variety of resources and tools that lead to the development of an approach followed by planned action and a set of measures and guidelines establishing the green belt project in a sustainable territorial planning.
