Abstract

In a context of global warming and environmental crisis linked to an economic crisis, and worldwide, the energy consumption of fossil and non-renewable resources reached spectacular thresholds. This has prompted governments to introduce laws and regulations for an economy and good energy management. In the building sector, this is reflected in the thermal regulations (RT), which have as a principle: maximum comfort for users with minimal use of fossil energy. In Algeria, the State has adopted an energy control policy since 1999, and in 2015, the Renewable Energy Development Center (CDER) has launched a regulatory verification tool at the Algerian RT called RETA (REglementation Thermique Algérienne). The objective of our research is to evaluate the conformity to the Algerian RT of a standard residential building using the RETA tool, propose its thermal rehabilitation and evaluate the energy gains achieved for heating after rehabilitation. To achieve our objective, we followed the following research method: First, we evaluated the compliance with RT of the building, which is an individual house using RETA. Then we chose the most efficient thermal rehabilitation scenario using the RETA tool. Finally, we evaluated the most energy efficient rehabilitation by simulating energy savings for heating by RETA, Audit and ECOTECT. The results obtained showed that the building did not conform to the RT and that the proposed thermal rehabilitation of the building resulted in a heating energy savings of more than 50%. In addition, with a view to thermal rehabilitation for energy efficiency, our research has identified some limitations of Algerian RT and its RETA tool, which would need to be supplemented by dynamic thermal simulation tools.
