Abstract

Masonry buildings are a very important part of traditional constructions’ legacy in Algeria. They represent an heritage that should be preserved. Due to the degradation caused by the old age of these constructions and the impact of the different loads, these structures need work to improve their behavior and to restore the structural elements’ stability in order to insure their longevity. For this reason, this research was done with the purpose of highlighting the problem of the reinforcement of theses constructions and its regulatory basis. To that end, our work consists in collecting different Algerian and foreign regulatory documents, analyzing and comparing them. Due to the lack of references in Algeria, the aim was in the first place to analyse the reinforcement approach compared with a foreign example, and then to make a regulatory guide of foreign references that can be used, and finally to propose a model of the reinforcement approach. In the second place, we intended to incite officials to take care of this problem by training specialized executives in the field and by thinking of publishing regulatory guides for the operation. The works in masonry establish a very important part in the inheritance of the traditional constructions in Algeria, representing a heritage to be protected. Seen the degradation due to the dilapidation of these constructions, and the impact of the various human, climatic and natural requests, these works have urgent need in works of improvement of view of their behavior towards these hazards. Also to allow their sustainabilities, it is necessary to make sure of the existence of a minimum level required in the structural stability, in particular towards the accidental actions(shares) particularly the earthquake. Knowing that the succession of the Algerian earthquake-resistant regulation for three decades imposed chainings in the constructions in masonries while before it A real report on the ground shows that these buildings always stand in spite of hazards quoted previously, let us add to it the importance of the park difficult to replace for the moment, consequently it is clear that the adequate solution is the solution of strengthening, as possible and the demolition in borderline cases. But for it has tone the necessary means for the realization in particular the technical statutory aspect. From this Abstract perspective, this research work was developed in the objective to highlight the problem of strengthening of these constructions and its statutory foundation This research work was begun by a bibliographical search, in particular the harvest of the various Algerian and foreign statutory documents used in Algeria on this theme, to analyze them and arrest their recommendations. At the same time, we got closer to institutions of search affiliated to the ministry of the housing environment to know the CGS and the CNERIB to understand the official management of this problem. This allowed us to notice and to understand the cruel space in the management in terms of technical regulations of this problem of strengthening of the former built in our country. In this situation of reference insufficiency in Algeria, the objective was first of all, to make an analysis of the approach of strengthening by basing itself on foreign cases. Then to try to establish a statutory guide compound of foreign references, which can be used, and stop by the presentation of a model following for an approach of strengthening. Secondly, incite the persons in charge to take care of this problem by the training of specialized in the domain with a high-level know-how, which will allow us to guarantee the slightest bit the sustainability of our architectural heritage.
