Witness of civilizations everywhere, the architectural heritage represents the common memory of humanity, as we can see in the of hospital architecture, whom’s study allows us to trace the changes in the practices of medicine, which was at the beginning very modest due to the few existing means, until today's modern hospitals that have the ambition to lead the patient to recovery. Therefore, our interest focused on the rehabilitation of hospitals and the well-being of patients, because despite the technological developments in the field of health, study of the morphological mutations of hospital architecture throughout history shows us that they are often linked to religious or economic considerations, but never in the purpose to procure a feeling of well-being to the patient. Only some of the projects at the cutting edge of development show this interest for the users' feelings. The choice of the Ophthalmology service at Mustapha Pasha Hospital is due to its involvement in the history of medicine and its membership of one of the oldest teaching hospitals in Africa, but also for reasons of accessibility to study site, in this very specific pandemic context. Knowing that this service will soon be rehabilitated, we have used the evidence-based design method in order to diagnose the impact of the physical environment on the well-being of the patients. The results of this research revealed that most of the criteria related to well-being in the hospital environment exist in the ophthalmology department, however they are not always in very good condition, or they no longer meet the current standards. In addition, some systems in the field of patient care, communication and logistics, linked to technological development, are simply absent.
