Abstract
The Safir Hotel (formerly the Aletti Hotel, Algiers Municipal Casino) built during the
celebration of the centenary of French occupation in Algeria by Auguste Bluysen and Joachin
Richard, is one of the emblematic and historic hotels of the city of Algiers. Over the years, and
following its continued degradation, the hotel was in a deplorable situation. Its rehabilitation
was therefore programmed by the SGP Gestour as part of the modernization and upgrading of
public hotel infrastructures to international standards in order to boost tourism activity in
Algeria. It is through the rehabilitation works that structural features were discovered at the
hotel. The singularities in the civil engineering of the hotel go back to its construction at a time
when the reinforced concrete made its first manifestations and met rules often described as
empirical completely different from the current construction standards especially with regard
to the component seismic that had obviously not been taken into consideration at the time
