The city attract more and more the populations, the rural migration and the population growth increase the number of urban dwellers, more than 50% of the population lives in the city , more than 50% of the population lives in the city . The accelerated growth of the urban population is undoubtedly accompanied by a rampant urbanization to meet its needs that are generally limited to housing, infrastructures, industrial activities etc. which represent a pressure on the nature spaces in the city and give birth to a mineral urbanism that always pushes nature further away from the city and prevents citizens from benefiting from its services, in another way, it pushes the city towards peripheral nature spaces such as "agricultural lands" in thus threatening agricultural production and food safety. The environmental, social and economic crises resulting from the current urban development pattern and the emergence of a sustainable city concept where nature and biodiversity are once again taken into account have led to an awareness of the need to find alternatives that redraw the city by balancing the need for new urbanization and the need to preserve space for forms of occupations of land, including natural spaces. In this context, urban agriculture was born. It relates to the intersection between the urban and the agricultural center and, through its multiple functions, allows for consideration of the nature of the city and the challenges of sustainability. However, the concept of urban agriculture does not receive enough attention at the local level. The urban and agricultural world is separate. The aim of this research is to highlight the possible coexistence between urban and agricultural space, to focus on the various services and functions provided by urban agriculture, and to contribute to improving the living environment and contributing to its various forms to respond to the challenges of our cities. In order to prove the need to integrate urban agriculture, the municipality of Ain al-Benian in Algeria was selected as study case. The comparison between the various types of urban agriculture in terms of contributing to the sustainability of their lands aims at clarifying the characteristics and the purposes of each type. The intersection between local municipal issues and the results of this comparison enables us to shed light on the type of urban agriculture that responds adequately to the environmental, social and economic challenges of the municipality of Ain Benian
