Abstract
The study of landscaping practices carried out on the territory of two new cities
(Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in France and Boughzoul in Algeria) aims to illuminate the
production of public spaces of the second in the light of the experience of the first.
Essentially, it seeks to account, through the analysis of the processes of their implementation,
of the interaction of the political, economic and environmental contexts and stakeholders of
the urban projects of the two cities.
It shows, in two different contexts, how the two projects of public spaces and
landscape planning were conceived and realized in a planned way. How in Saint-Quentin
developers have experimented, in a pragmatic and flexible way, the projects of landscape
designers and artists, which can be reported 50 years after the start of work.
The thesis highlights in its results the practical lessons that can be drawn from the
French experience to continue the construction of the new city of Boughzoul. It insists on the
need to involve and train landscape designers, skills that do not exist in Algeria.
