Identification des valeurs du patrimoine industriel du XIX-XXème siècle en Algérie

Abstract

Our reasearch will try to introduce us to the recent notion of the industrial heritage, which is at present in the center of the debates and the interests on the international scene. This patrimonial typology includes all what is bound to a production activity symbolizing the industrialization, from the material aspects (buildings, machines … etc.). To the immaterial ones (scientific and technological knowledge … etc.). It has its own characteristics and values which make its specificity. Nevertheless, once confronted with the Algerian context, this new recruit does not know the same echo, it remains unknown and marginalized compared to the other patrimonial categories, due to the misunderstanding of its specificity and particularity, this marginalization appears clearly, when we see the neglected state of these kind of buildings dedicated to destruction, but also about our heritage protection policies that recognize this heritage, but excluded it from the ranking. Indeed, some property classified related to this period are without their industrial identity and no restraint criterion for classification only refers to their membership of the industrial heritage category. Through our research we will try to define the specific values of this typology in Algeria by referring to a specified study case whitch is the Narbonne mill of Hussein Dey. As matter of fact if we manage to decipher the values of the industrial heritage from the mill, and it comes out that it has significant features of the typically Algerian industrial heritage, we shall succeed in proving the legitimacy of this type of building to be preserved and raised to the rank of heritage to insure its sustainability.
